Launch Rockets & Power Circuit Boards at the Library

Libraries long ago evolved beyond being repositories of books; they’ve transformed into dynamic spaces for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning. Integrating STEAM into libraries enriches communities by fostering curiosity and innovation among diverse age groups.

When our Creation Station first opened in 2018, the TeacherGeek cart allowed for kids and their adults to learn science and engineering concepts through experimentation, grow their understanding, and evolve projects through the design & engineering process. Using the gears, wheels, battery packs, pegboards, and other supplies, Natrona County’s littlest STEAM learners have been experimenting and creating for over five years.

Integrating STEAM learning into libraries not only democratizes access to technology and knowledge but it also empowers kids to become adaptable, innovative, and informed contributors to an increasingly complex world. Other education organizations have been incorporating STEAM learning into their own services as well, and the Library is happy to work alongside one of these partners.

The Science Zone, through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, is launching FLEXHIBITs Across Wyoming, and the Natrona County Library is their first stop! During the months of February and March, our Creation Station will look a little different as we make room for two interactive Flexcarts. These hands-on carts allow kids easy and engaging access to information and experiences about STEAM concepts and careers. Teens and kids and their adults will be able to build a rocket and launch it into the stratosphere (or at least as high as our lights). Then, they can swap over to the circuit bench, crank out some energy, and make the bench spin or light up.

While our TeacherGeek cart will be temporarily stored to make room for the Flexcarts, we are excited to add another learning experience to our Creation Station. Kids and their parents and teens are invited to stop by and check out these two carts while we have them! They’ll be available for use any time the library is open from February 1st until March 31st.

Thank you, Science Zone, for helping spread STEAM learning in Natrona County!
